Literacy and Numeracy are important aspects of every child's learning and development. The Pallara Enrichment Program 'PEP' provides students the opportunity to further develop their skills in reading, writing, and maths. PEP is a program that occurs afterschool in the Library. It is an intensive program that targets students' development of specific elements of the Australian Curriculum to support their overall academic success. The sessions are created by teachers and facilitated by teacher aides.
In Semester One, there are two rounds that occur. The first is for selected Year 3 and Year 5 students and the second is for selected Year 2 and Year 4 students to be invited. In Semester Two, there is a third round when selected Year 2 and Year 4 students are invited to attend. Students who are above Year level standard experience sessions to extend their knowledge and skills. Students who are below year level standard, but achieve some elements of their year level standard, experience enrichment sessions to support the development of their knowledge and skills. Students are selected by their teachers if they fit this criterion and believe they are suited to this intensive program. Teachers are only able to select a small number of students per class due to capacity limits in the afternoon sessions. The Maths and English sessions run on different days to ensure students could attend both, if invited.
PEP English has either a writing or reading focus. The writing program focuses on developing their sustained writing skills using our signature Super Sentences and VCOP programs. The reading program focuses on developing their fluency, comprehension and decoding skills in reading. PEP Maths has a focus on enhancing key fundamentals within maths and developing their problem-solving skills.
