Laptops that use a Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU (ie. Microsoft Surface) are currently NOT supported for use as a BYO Device. Please ensure the laptop you select has either an Intel or AMD brand CPU.
Before purchasing a laptop to use at school, look through the school's minimum specification requirements to ensure you purchase an appropriate laptop. These specifications relate to the suitability of the laptop in enabling class activities, meeting student needs and promoting safe and secure access to the department's network. We have vendors who list only compatible laptops at the bottom of the page. Whilst we do encourage parents and carers to consider purchasing from these portals, please keep in mind that the school takes no responsibility for private laptop purchases and/or finance arrangements.
Things to consider when purchasing a laptop:
- Laptop build quality - Does the laptop feel sturdy? - Laptops need to be sturdy and robust in a school environment. Sometimes the slimmest laptop on the market is not the best option for students. The One-Education Infinity and Lenovo 500w laptops are very robust options (Both can be purchased through our vendor portal's below) or does the laptop you purchase have any robust case options?
- Laptop size - Is the laptop too big or too small for my student? - eg. a 14" laptop is too big for a year 1 student. 11.6" laptop offerings are fine for year 1 through to year 6.
- Laptop warranty - Does the laptop come with a good warranty? (Most laptops purchased from retail stores only offer a 12 month warranty and you are required to send the laptop back for any warranty requests) We recommend looking for a laptop with a greater warranty period/option. Some of the vendors we have listed down below offer greater warranty options along with optional "Accidental damage protection"
- Laptop battery life - Does the laptop have a good battery life (6+ hours is recommended)
