If you are a new family, or would like to join the program, there are a number of steps that need to be followed. Following these steps ensures that you are well informed of the requirements and expectations around taking part in the program.

Step 1

Download and go through the parent information session powerpoint (Link found below)

Information included in the information session powerpoint:

  • What is BYOD?
  • What are the educational benefits?
  • How does BYOD work?
  • What are the student and parent responsibilities?
  • Which laptop meets the minimum specifications required?
  • Laptop selections and accessories required
Face-to-face information sessions happen later in the year. Dates can be found on the school calendar on the website.

Step 2

Download, read and sign the BYOD Charter - Pallara State School

The Charter:

  • Charters are supplied in your enrolment pack. The back page needs to be signed and returned to the school office
  • Students cannot join the network without this signed and returned
  • If another copy is needed, it can be found on the school website under > Curriculum > Bring Your Own Device > Joining the program > “BYOD Charter 2023"

 Step 2 - 2024 BYOD Charter (PDF, 382KB)

Step 3

Purchase a Laptop, Laptop bag, Headset and mouse if required

There are pre-selected laptop options available through our vendor portals - Visit the Laptop Selection page to compare options and purchase. These vendors offer educational grade laptops that meet or exceed the minimum device specifications.

It is vital that laptops used meet the minimum specifications required. Devices that do not meet this specification will not work on out network. Minimum device specifications can be found on the Laptop Selection page on this website. Before purchasing a device, please thoroughly ready through the information provided. It can be overwhelming to find a suitable device when going into a store. To make this easier we have online portals on the Laptop Selection page that list appropriate laptops. If you do decide to purchase a device from a local shop or other online retailer, please take the minimum device specification sheet with you and ensure that you do not purchase Microsoft Office or any Anti-Virus. More information about this can be found on the BYOD FAQ on this website.

Step 4

Setup your laptop ready to be used at school

Your childs new device can be setup at home before bringing it into school for the first time. You will need to obtain your students school account details from the school to complete the setup. If they are brand new and have not yet attended out school, these will not be available until a couple of days after their first day of attending.

We have tried to make it as easy as possible for you to set your childs new laptop before brining it into school. There are 3 guides available depending on how confident you are in setting your device up. You can start on the guide that is relevant to you.

Guide 1: Setting up a brand-new device straight out of the box (PDF, 1.28MB)
Guide 2: Setting up an account on the laptop for your child (PDF, 1.1MB)
Guide 3: How to onboard the device (Setting the device up for use at school)(PDF, 599KB)

If your device is in "S Mode" Please follow the Remove device out of S Mode (PDF, 167KB) Instructions

PLEASE NOTE: It is vital that your student account is set as an Administrator of the device. If you are unsure how to do this, please read “Guide 2 Setting up an account on the laptop for your child" This step is vital to ensure connectivity to the network. Devices sent to school where the student does not have administrator access will not function correctly.
